The concept of Spiritus Arca began taking shape in late 2014. Crafted from Walnut, this mysterious box was designed with an early 1900s flair, drawing inspiration from historical magic pieces while incorporating innovative twists. The box features fold-down doors on both the front and back, with an astrology map elegantly printed on the inside of the back door panel. Pass-through holes adorn the two ends, while a small, round hinged door is strategically positioned at the center of the box's top. This round door boasts dual openings, perfectly sized to accept loops of rope.

 

To initiate the experience, two separate ropes of distinct colors are carefully folded in half, creating loops in their centers. These rope loops are then passed up through the openings in the top door, where a wooden dowel secures them in place above the box. The four rope ends are subsequently passed through openings in the box's sides, corresponding to the lid's secured ropes. Two randomly chosen audience members are then invited to firmly grasp the rope ends, one in each hand.  As the performer removes the wooden dowel, the volunteers are instructed to gently pull the rope ends, drawing the rope loops into the box's void. However, they soon discover that the ropes cannot be pulled past a certain point. Upon opening the box door panels, a mystifying revelation unfolds: the two ropes, once secured separately, are now inexplicably looped through one another. The ropes are then presented for examination, inviting the audience to ponder the enigma.

 

In another astounding feat, a glass is placed inside the box near one end, while a red ball is positioned at the opposite end. The door panels are closed and latched, only to be reopened, revealing the ball miraculously inside the glass. The ball can then be rolled out onto the table, allowing both the ball and glass to be scrutinized.

 

A pendulum is then suspended from a hook at the center of the top door, appearing perfectly still. The box doors are closed, and upon reopening, the pendulum is seen swinging side to side, its motion having begun mysteriously on its own.

 

This beautiful box is lined in black velvet and features flush brass screws reinforcements. To ensure effortless transportation, Spiritus Arca has been designed to be removable from its stand. The stand can be disassembled, and all components safely packed within the box itself.
