The Mystic Spirit Board was a bespoke creation, carefully crafted in 2017 for the esteemed Dr. Todd Landman. His vision was to design a board that seamlessly integrated two brass coins, each bearing a distinct message: one engraved with the affirmative "YES" and the other with the negative "NO". These coins, with their embossed surfaces, presented a unique challenge: their textured faces needed to be smoothed out to facilitate the effortless movement of the planchette.

 

To overcome this hurdle, a clever solution was devised. A delicate piece of glass was carefully floated over the surface of the board, creating a silky-smooth canvas for the planchette to glide across. This ingenious approach not only ensured a seamless user experience but also added an extra layer of visual depth to the board. The glass, in turn, was beautifully framed within a stunningly crafted, wafer-thin Walnut frame, precision-cut to accentuate the board's mystical aura.

 

Complementing the board's elegant design, the planchette was also meticulously crafted from Walnut, its rich, dark tones harmonizing perfectly with the frame. To complete the board's aesthetic, the bottom surface was adorned with a soft, green felt, providing a tactile contrast to the smooth glass above.

 

A standout feature of the Mystic Spirit Board is the captivating artwork, masterfully created by the talented Rebecca Moore Higgins. The two kneeling skeletons, poised as guardians of the coins, were intentionally designed to exude a slightly sketchy, organic quality. This deliberate artistic choice infused the board with a sense of mystique, as if the skeletons had emerged from the shadows, bearing their enigmatic messages. The result is a spirit board that not only honors the traditions of the past but also whispers secrets of the unknown.
